From Vauxhall to Notting Hill Gate
So I went for my 2nd rock climbing session last night.
I’m de-loading this week from training.
(As you know)
But wanted to get some practice in & try out the new shoes 😅
>
Bit of a weird one to be honest with you.
Felt like everything seemed harder.
Much harder actually.
More challenging.
-> Holds felt smaller
-> Grip didn’t feel as secure
-> Hands seemed to get tired quicker
-> Almost overthinking every attempt
That’s how it FELT whilst I was doing it.
>
So I mentioned this to my friend afterwards
Who’s a fairly experienced climber.
(Has a chalk bag & everything, which is a MUST have btw)
And he told me it looks like the EXACT opposite.
I looked more confident on the wall.
Doing more challenging climbs & succeeding with them.
And just generally better than a couple of weeks ago.
Which I was obviously buzzing about.
Love me a bit of progression.
>
Funny that isn’t it?
So I took that as a major W.
That I’m making progress with it.
And when I was heading back on the tube afterwards.
In-between stations with no wifi …
It’s soooo similar to when you first start training in the gym.
Because it doesn’t actually feel like it’s getting any easier.
Just more difficult every time you go.
-> Because you’re using MORE weight.
-> Squeezing your muscles HARDER each time.
-> Probably doing everything with a SLOWER tempo.
And seeing as you know what to expect, there’s less novelty.
Novelty -> the excitement of doing something new masks how challenging it can be.
I certainly felt like this last night when I was on the wall.
But I’m going to show up again next week & deposit more practice pennies 🤌
Have a good one.
Harry
