5 things I learnt from my trip to North London 😏
So yesterday I made the trip up to Wood Green.
Zone 3.
(Mordor feels closer tbh)
Training with a friend at this top bodybuilding gym.
Zone Gym.
That I’ve been to a few times before.
And I made some quick notes on my phone to share with you.
5, to be precise 👀
Environment is key
The bodybuilding gyms are usually the best for this.
Everyone is there to work
Most people are friendly
You’ll neverrrr be the best in-shape person there
The atmosphere makes you want to level up
But.
It also doesn’t just come down to WHERE you train.
It’s WHO you train with.
(the bodybuilding gyms aren’t in central London
so naturally it’s difficult to regularly train there)
My clients are lucky enough to train with me.
So I create the environment for my clients to train hard & effectively in the gym.
The hardcore bodybuilding gym approach, but in a commercial setting.
Sexy, good-looking people train hard
Men & women
And it’s (now) deemed as cool to train hard.
It didn’t used to be.
Back in the day, I think it was frowned upon -
(correct me if I’m wrong here btw)
“Oh I just jump out of bed & look like this - I don’t do weights”
That kind of thing.
In Miami.
All the big-time female fitness ‘influencers’ / fitness models ..
Train in gyms more similar to a hardcore bodybuilding gym.
Rather than a fancy ‘fluffy towel’ Equinox-type gym.
They’re busy hip-thrusting 170g 🤯
Not playing around with 2kg pink dumbbells
Strong, fit, athletic, aesthetic, hot bodies are built on:
(good genetics)
hard training
sensible dieting
consistency
It’s cool to train hard now.
Try and enjoy your training
It’s one of the keys to long-term success.
You gotta enjoy it.
Sure ..
You’re not going to jump out of bed each morning at 5 am to train.
Especially if it’s cold & rainy outside.
But when you zoom out.
And speaking to someone at a dinner/drinks party about your fitness regime ..
(not sure about you, but whenever I go out .. the topic of conversation invariably heads towards fitness .. if I’m in the room 😂)
You want to be able to say you actually ENJOY going to the gym.
Overall.
Programming is overrated
I’ve written about this before recently.
And sure.
It has its place.
But you can’t be getting too technical/militant with your regime.
Otherwise, you’ll spend most of your 55-minute training session ..
Writing your numbers down on your phone.
Rather than actually focusing on shifting some serious weight around 🤪
Have your 2-3 movements for each body part.
And rotate through them as you see fit.
8-12 reps on everything.
Christmas separates the full timers & the part timers
Full time fitness people don’t take the whole of December off.
Part-timers do exactly that.
Gyms are quiet in December.
So if you’re serious.
(and you probably are if you’re reading this ..)
Then take advantage of that & get your workouts in.
Of course, we all take some time off around actual Christmas.
But don’t go full Christmas mode on 17th Dec 😎
>>
And on that note ..
I usually have Sundays’ as my rest day from the gym.
But seeing as we have THAT Christmas week coming up.
And I’ll probably only manage 2-3 sessions that week.
I’m building up a bit of a buffer.
Ciao 💪
Harry
