A Training quote that’s been doing the rounds for years.
And always causes quite the debate:
“Stimulate don’t annihilate”
Now hear me out.
It’s not a cop-out for training hard.
And there are probably instances where you SHOULD do the latter.
19-20-year-olds when they first start training, for example.
Fresh, excited to start hitting the gym, sleep 10 hours a night & are pretty active …
Can probably handle a lot more volume, intensity and fatigue after a training session than a highly stressed CEO in their 50s.
Who has a list of injuries, gets 5-6 sleep a night & doesn’t have the same appetite for training as a teen does.
But even ad hoc.
It sometimes benefits you from doing a more challenging than a normal training session.
Probably both physical and mentally.
Even for this hypothetical 50-year-old than I’m talking about …

But if you zoom out.
And look at the big picture.
Over a 5, 10, 20+ year period.
Looking to stimulate rather than annihilate is probably a wise idea.
Because when you do zoom out.
It’s longevity & time that are the MVPs.
Training at 60% for 10 years consistently.
Will trump training at 90% for 2 years inconsistently.
See what I mean?
It’s always a time game over the long term.

Have a good one.
(Don’t train too hard … 😂)
