Why I LIKE old school bodybuilding
As you can probably tell.
I’m not a huge fan of SOME of the old school bodybuilding myths.
(Will get onto the others shortly)
-> No carbs in the evening if you want fat loss
-> Fasted cardio is essential for losing fat
-> Brown rice over white rice
-> 1 muscle group a day type training
Etc
You get the idea.
None of these are optimal.
Nor essential if you’re looking to get in shape.
And look …
A lot of these myths, that’ve been around for DECADES.
Are not applicable for everyday individuals.
BUT.
I do start to see some relevance to them.
I’ll give you some examples:
PRE competition
In the weeks/days leading up to the show.
You see competitors eating bland food.
Boring, chicken & rice type meals.
>> Not essential for people to do that if they want to get in shape
But when you’re about to step on stage, and you want to MINIMISE all unpredictability.
Keep your fibre intake super low
Opt for easily digestible foods
Not cause any bloating etc
Then bland chicken & rice (cakes) may just be the PERFECT meal for them.
If they went for a ‘normal person’ type meal of a chicken salad from a shop.
A few drizzles of olive oil
Random assortments of vegetables
Maybe a bit of sauce on the side too
Teriyaki chicken
Well … they just wouldn’t.
Another example.
FASTED cardio
Isn’t essential for losing body fat.
Or even just getting in shape.
We know this now.
But has anyone (apart from The Rock) EVER done cardio at 11 pm at night …?
Just before they hop into bed?
>> Is it easier to do it FIRST thing, before you’ve had your breakfast, so you ACTUALLY end up doing it?
Probably. Definitely.
It comes down to doing it versus not doing it.
And THAT is the game-changer.
See what I’m getting at?
I used to hate on the old school bodybuilding myths a lot.
But now I’m sort of understanding how they came about in the first place.
Now off to do my fasted cardio before Meal 1 of 7 of chicken & rice.
😂
